Current CellAg UK Committee

I am a scientist working in the cultivated meat industry, having recently completed my PhD in the field of epigenetics and mammalian embryonic development at the University of Cambridge. I joined Cellular Agriculture UK in May 2021, and I’ve been doing a bit of everything ever since - from organising meetings & journal clubs to taking the lead on some of the projects we’ve been working on, aiming to grow and support the UK CellAg community. I’m super excited to talk about cellular agriculture and how it can impact animal welfare and the environment whenever I get the chance!

Tom George

I am a UK Civil Servant with over 15 years' experience developing policy and programmes, managing and leading teams, developing public policy and building international partnerships to tackle key global challenges. I first became aware of cellular agriculture in 2019, and became interested in its potential to positively impact on a range of global challenges including climate change and biodiversity loss, food security, public health and animal welfare, and the potential public policy challenges that the sector will present as it scales up. I joined Cellular Agriculture UK in June 2021 in order to support the development of the cellular agriculture community in the UK.

I am a scientist with interests in cellular agriculture, as well as in proteomics and data analysis. In 2022, I completed my PhD in Cell Biology and a short postdoc at the University of Cambridge and MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. Around the same time, I attended a seminar course on alternative proteins, which led me to getting involved with Cellular Agriculture UK. I joined, and subsequently co-led, CAUK’s university mapping project that we completed in April 2023. This was a great experience for me, and I am excited about further contributing to building a strong and open cell ag community and ecosystem in the UK (and further afield)!

Sydney Milner

I’m a final year undergraduate student studying Biotechnology at The University of Edinburgh, passionate about the potential of cellular agriculture to contribute to sustainability and food security. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I’ve had industry experience at UPSIDE Foods and SCiFi Foods focusing on cell line development. I joined Cellular Agriculture UK to contribute to the University Mapping project, and am passionate about accessibility and communication in the growing UK Cell Ag field.

Lucie George

I joined Cellular Agriculture UK in August 2021 to help with the communications strategy. I have been working in the field of science communication for the past 15 years within a number of different organisations in the charity and government sectors, with a particular focus on environment and conversation. Having completed a MSc in Science and Society in 2016 I am hugely interested in how the public perception of cellular agriculture may shape the sector as it develops and grows, as well as the challenges of effectively communicating a rapidly developing field of research and technology.

James Ozden

I’m the founder of and a researcher at Social Change Lab, a nonprofit trying to understand how grassroots social movements affect social change. Previously, I completed the Charity Entrepreneurship Incubation Program, an intensive course to launch highly impactful nonprofits tackling the world’s most pressing problems. Whilst my academic background is in Physics, my recent work has been on developing strategy and campaigns for grassroots social movements working on climate and animal justice. I joined Cellular Agriculture UK in November 2021 to help with fundraising efforts and the university outreach program. In my spare time, I enjoy climbing, surfing (although it’s been a while) and training for my first slightly daunting triathlon!

I am current undergraduate student, studying Neuroscience and AI. Having completed the Cambridge Alternative Proteins Fundamentals Programme, I founded the UCL Alternative Proteins Society in 2022, and have joined CAUK to lead the University Outreach Project, and help other catalyse the establishment of alternative proteins/cell ag student societies at other UK universities.
