UK Organisations
Introduction
The UK is rapidly establishing itself as a global leader in the field of cellular agriculture. With a robust biotechnology sector, world-class universities, and a government that champions scientific innovation, the cellular agriculture industry is well-positioned to flourish.
Since 2022, over £90 million has been invested in research hubs focused on alternative proteins across the UK. Additionally, substantial investments have been directed towards startups in the sector. To further support innovation, a novel food regulatory sandbox has been created. To complement these advancements, a network of companies and not-for-profit organisations is fostering an ecosystem that supports scientific development and commercialisation efforts.
In this section we aim to provide an overview of various components of the UK cell ag ecosystem, with a particular focus on university involvement in cellular agriculture, showcasing the pivotal role academia plays in advancing this industry.
