Outreach Programme

Introduction

In summer 2025 we ran some pilot outreach events with the general public in the UK. The aim was to engage the general public and school-age children with cellular agriculture topics, gather before/after opinions on cell ag and find out whether people would be interested in trying cultivated meat. We also wanted to help raise general awareness around these topics that are often miscommunicated in the mainstream media, providing a positive image and scientific background needed to understand these emerging technologies.

Impact

You can find out more about the individual pilot events below, but in general we saw an increase in positive attitudes to cellular agriculture after the discussions with experts in the field. The audiences were very engaged and asked thoughtful questions on the potential uses of cellular agriculture. We are excited about building on these pilot outreach events - watch this space!

  • In June 2025, we hosted a panel discussion, with experts from industry and academia, at a music and arts festival in Scotland. It was well-attended (~40 ppl) and sparked interesting questions from the audience. There was a positive change in audience attitudes towards cultivated meat, with an estimated 45% before the discussion who said they would try it, compared to about 80% afterwards.

  • The pilot, with students from years 7, 10 and 12, showed great interest in food systems and cell ag specifically. They were also more likely to say they would try cultivated meat after the lesson. We will be doing more in autumn term 2025 - stay tuned!
