Cell Ag UK Student Conference

Introduction

In March 2024 we ran our first virtual student conference for undergraduates and early career researchers. Our key aims were:

  • To support and educate participants about cellular agriculture/alternative proteins

  • To facilitate networking

  • To support early career researchers (hopefully in diverse fields) with practical advice and resources

Impact

We had a really great evening, with inspiring and informative speakers, and really engaging conversations happening both in person and via the chat. Attendees said they really valued the variety of speakers, hearing from industry professionals and about people’s career paths. 100% of attendees gave it 8/10 or above and 92% felt more inspired or information about pursuing a career in the area after the conference, with the remaining 8% stating they attended as they just wanted to find out more about the field as it was new to them.

This student conference was created in collaboration with a PhD student who had an idea, but needed some support to make it happen. We are always open to ways of helping students in this space, so if you have an idea and you want to work with us get in contact.

How we can help

Empowering Early Career Researchers in Cellular Agriculture and Alternative Proteins

The conference is designed to empower students and early career professionals by providing valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of cellular agriculture. Gain valuable insights into the varied UK perspective, exploring three distinct pathways – academic research, industry and beyond the lab. Discover opportunities to make a meaningful difference as seasoned professionals share their experiences, current contributions, and offer guidance for the next generation in this emerging field.

Further details

Session 1: Cellular Agriculture Academic Pathway - Building a Successful Academic Career

This session focuses on providing insights and guidance for individuals interested in pursuing a career in cellular agriculture from an academic perspective. Topics will include educational pathways, research opportunities, and strategies for building a successful academic career in the field.

Session 2: Industry Insights and Opportunities - Navigating a Career in Cell Ag Research

The second session delves into the industry aspect of cellular agriculture, offering insights and opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in research within the field. Discussions will cover personal experience, and opportunities for growth within the cellular agriculture industry.

Session 3: Beyond the Lab - Alternative Pathways to a Career in Alt Proteins

The third session broadens the perspective by exploring contributions to cellular agriculture beyond traditional research settings. It sheds light on the roles of non-profit organisations, regulatory bodies, and research organisations in shaping and supporting the development of cellular agriculture. This session aims to highlight the multifaceted nature of contributions essential for the growth of cellular agriculture beyond laboratory research.
